Victory is sweet, my friends! The Gasparilla race was great today and a big shout out to DT for running it with... The weather was nice...the sun a little brutal on the way to the finish line. But all-in-all an excellent time!
It is totally worth the weeks of training, the sore muscles, the anxiety and sweat (and possibly tears) to cross that finish line with complete and utter pride. So what if we weren't the first 1000 to cross the finish line (out of more than 4000 runners)...the point is we crossed it and dammit, we ran 9.3 miles - and we weren't last but if we were, so what?!? The accomplishment in and of itself is impressive even if you're a seasoned runner. It's no easy task putting your body through 1.5-2 hours of pounding on the pavement. And when you pass that 1/2 way mark, you think "hell yeah, MFers it's nothing but cake now!" Keep on going...race away... I'm totally proud of DT, myself (hell ya!) and everyone else running out there. And of course a big shout out to the husband and D's wife for cheering us on and sticking around while WE ran and they ate at the Marriott buffet :) (mind you, I might have been a bit jealous of that since that was probably more fun than the run...however, not so sure if it was as satisfying)
So next stop...The Gate River Run in Jax. After today, I'll be happy with completing it and claiming completion as my victory. Just 2 more weeks...
Happy running!
